Lodestone co-founded the Bourbon Alliance alongside key names from the hospitality sector and US Whisky category including Jack Daniel’s, Makers Mark and Jim Beam. The Bourbon Alliance was founded to secure the removal of the 25% retaliatory tariff placed on US Whiskeys being imported to the UK. We garnered significant grass roots support from members who represent every stage of the Whiskey supply chain, including bars, restaurants, importers, distillers, retailers and events organisers. Then began a bespoke public affairs campaign –briefing parliamentary stakeholders on the damage of the tariffs on UK plc, creating and landing a compelling narrative on behalf of the group’s 62 members. We secured the support of 25 prominent backbench Conservative MPs who wrote letters to the Government urging them to accelerate the negotiating process and support the campaign.
Lodestone also hosted a Parliamentary Whiskey tasting for members from the Conservatives, Labour and SNP. Our media campaign secured front page coverage in the Financial Times, coverage in the Daily Mail, The Sunday Express, and Politico, with senior MPs writing about the need to cut the tariffs on Whiskey, as well as in trade publications such as Harpers, Just Drinks, The Drinks Report, and Decanter. The campaign allowed the Bourbon Alliance’s members to have their views represented to those on the inner circle of trans-Atlantic trade negotiations. In March 2022 the tariffs were successfully removed
