University of Birmingham Energy Institute

Lodestone works with the University of Birmingham’s Energy Institute to extend the reach and depth of their stakeholder engagement both locally and nationally, furthering the impact of their research and supporting significant REF achievements. Lodestone recently supported the University’s Decarbonisation of Heat and Energy from Waste policy commissions, working closely with the in-house team to produce high-level reports with forewords from prominent parliamentarians such as Lord Bilimoria.

The Lodestone team advised on messaging and themes for the report, aligning the findings with the priorities of the relevant government departments and tailoring the content to land with key political targets. Lodestone also supported the University in a targeted public affairs campaign, securing briefings and roundtables with then Energy Minister, Rt Hon Kwasi Kwarteng MP, Shadow Energy and Green New Deal Minister, Dr Alan Whitehead MP, Chair of the BEIS Select Committee, Darren Jones MP, Chair of the Net Zero APPG, Alex Sobel MP and Chair of EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee, Lord Teverson. Lodestone’s targeted public affairs work has helped the University achieve significant additional REF impact on research topics, as well as allowing them to broaden their network and further solidify their position as thought leaders on energy issues.
